Portrait of Timayenis
in Quincy (MA) Herald
The famous T204 set is commonly referred to as “Ramlys”, but there is a second back that can also be found on the cards, although not for all of the players. “T.T.T. Natural” was a vanity cigarette brand named for the Mentor Company’s president, the belligerent T.T. Timayenis, who had earlier created the Ramly cigarette brand knowing that consumers would confuse it with an existing “Ramleh” brand. He was sued for this by the S.Anargyros tobacco company, but that party eventually gave up the suit. There’s also some evidence that the Carl Horner photos used for this set were photographs of his work, i.e., Timaynenis may not paid Horner for them. It would fit with his character.
As of 2025, there are 49 players known who can be found with a T.T.T. back, which leaves 72 T204 subjects whose cards can be found with a Ramly back, only. I suspect that these numbers will not change, but given how scarce they are it’s not impossible. I’ve provided a full checklist of T.T.T.’s at the bottom on this page. If you know of any players whose status should change, please contact me. It would be much appreciated.
